After the release of Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch4 smartwatches, the YouTube Music app was still missing from all the other Wear OS smartwatches that came before. You see, since Google Play Music was replaced by YouTube Music, the Wear OS companion app has been ditched with it, and Wear OS wouldn’t see a proper replacement until recently with Samsung’s new smartwatches running Wear OS. 3, and until now with other watches running Wear OS 2.X.
According to The edge, the YouTube Music companion app is now deployed on Wear OS 2.X smartwatches. Google confirms at the point of sale that the updated app is rolling out this week on Fossil and Michael Kors Gen 6 smartwatches, and Mobvoi’s TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, TicWatch E3. More Wear OS 2.X devices will receive the app “later this year”.

Like the recently updated Spotify app for Wear OS, YouTube Music will be able to download tracks for offline playback. These tracks are refreshed every time the smartwatch connects to Wi-Fi. The caveat, however, is that this will only be possible if you are subscribed to YouTube Music or YouTube Premium.
It’s been over a year since Google announced it was terminating the Google Play Music Wear OS app. Google was finally going to announce a YouTube Music app for Wear OS to Google Virtual I / O this year, when Google announced its unified Wear OS 3 in collaboration with Samsung.
