Accidentally switched to the MiniPlayer on your Mac and want to switch back to the full-size Music app? Here’s how.
Want to upgrade to full-size iTunes or music app from MiniPlayer? It’s not so obvious but very possible
Apple has made some weird and wonderful decisions in the past, and some of them just don’t make sense. Take iTunes MiniPlayer (now Music) as an example. While it’s a great way to keep track of music and content being played in a nice and compact user interface, but if you’re new to Mac, you’ve already discovered that there’s no obvious way back. to the full size reader, first.
You see, while you can switch to the MiniPlayer directly from the main iTunes or Music app by clicking on the little album art, there’s no button (obvious way) to switch you back to the main player by full size. What happens if you force quit the app and relaunch it? Well, you’ll jump into the MiniPlayer again.
So how do you switch from MiniPlayer to full size player? This is how and it’s actually very not obvious if you are new to this.
All you have to do is click on the red “x” button in the upper left corner. That’s it. You don’t have to do anything else. And in case you were wondering, the escape key on the keyboard does nothing if you are in MiniPlayer mode.
The full size player view always makes us feel good about ourselves for some reason.
In case you were wondering how you can upgrade to the MiniPlayer in the first place, then it’s actually quite easy, and not so obvious at first. Just click on the little album art next to the playback controls as shown in the screenshot below.
When you’re in the full-size view of iTunes or Music, clicking the red button in the upper left corner will simply make the player disappear. You have to invoke it again from the Dock to show it. But for some reason Apple thinks clicking the same button in MiniPlayer mode should take you back to the full size player.
After all these years, I still haven’t accepted how it works and why!
