Last year, Google parted ways with Play Music and moved all of its users to YouTube Music. While the music streaming app receives updates often, the latest report confirms the Material You changes. This Material You setting is different for smartphones compared to what YouTube Music received for its playlist and album views on tablets.
As part of the Material You tweaks, YouTube Music is also getting redesigned Material You buttons in the Android app. Currently, the update is widely rolled out. Note that this is a server-side update and it will automatically update the YouTube Music app interface on your phone once it is available in your region.
A few buttons get a makeover in the YouTube Music app
You’ll notice that a rectangular shuffle button is ditched in favor of the pill-shaped button. This will appear on both playlist and album views, as reported by 9To5Google. The top of the home feed, which includes genres such as Workout and Energize, is now moved into rectangular-shaped boxes and has rounded corners instead of the usual pill format. Additionally, the More button next to playlists like Listen Again and Mixed For You is moved into its own pill-shaped button rather than being in a separate block of text.
This trio of Material You button changes brings a breath of fresh air to the YouTube Music app. Plus, it brings the app more in line with the other Google apps updated by Material You, and it adds to the symmetry. While the YouTube Music Material You button changes aren’t a big overhaul, they would be appreciated by Material You fans.
