Disable Dolby Atmos/Spatial Audio in Music App on Mac [Tutorial]

0

You can turn off Dolby Atmos/Spatial Audio in the Music app on your Mac while listening to Apple Music. Here’s how.

Don’t like Spatial Audio / Dolby Atmos in Music app on Mac when listening to Apple Music? turn it off

Spatial Audio gives songs and movies a whole new meaning and depth. But, for a few listeners, it doesn’t click at all. Sure, that sounds good to some, but it feels a bit forced in places, especially tracks that sound much better in stereo in the first place.

And if you’re on that bandwagon where you think you don’t need Spatial Audio or Dolby Atmos at all in the Mac’s Music app while listening to Apple Music, you’ll be glad to hear you can completely disable the feature. When turned off, every song you listen to on the Music app will be in stereo.

Tutorial

Step 1. Run it Music application.

Step 2. Now click Music in the top left menu bar.

Step 3. Now click Preferences.

Step 4. Now click on the Proofreading tab at the top.

Step 5. Now just turn off Dolby Atmos here and select the Disabled option.

Every song or music video you listen to from now on will stream in plain stereo, no more worrying about Dolby Atmos or Spatial Audio.

In some cases, Spatial Audio can actually improve the whole experience, especially if you’re listening to a live concert and it’s been properly converted to Dolby Atmos. It really is as if you were front row at the concert itself. But again, that’s something not everyone might like at all. We’re glad Apple Music gives us the option to turn off the feature if we don’t want it through preferences. If you are using non-AirPods headphones or earphones, the feature is not supported at all.

You can also disable the feature on your iPhone and iPad. If that bothers you too much, just head over to Settings > Music > Dolby Atmos then select Disabled. Every song on Apple Music will now play in stereo once this is done.

Interestingly, you can even force your Mac, iPhone, and iPad to always play material in Dolby Atmos, whether or not the connected output supports spatial audio.
